"Jubilee - Our Glorious Future!" and "Our 'Net' Worth and 'Net' Work" Mark Chironna, Orlando, FL

In this year of jubilee each of you shall return to his property. And if you sell to your neighbor or buy from your neighbor, you shall not wrong one another. According to the number of years after the jubilee, you shall buy from your neighbor, and according to the number of years for crops he shall sell to you. If the years are many you shall increase the price, and if the years are few you shall diminish the price, for it is the number of the crops that he is selling to you. You shall not wrong one another, but you shall fear your God"; for I am the LORD your God. Leviticus 25:13-17 RSV
Then He said to them, "These are My words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled." Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures." Luke 24:44-45 ESV
The Lord Jesus, by the Holy Spirit, continues to open our minds to understand the Scriptures even to this day. Christ is our Jubilee! The Year of Jubilee was, according to the Law of Moses, intended to be the very center of Israel's economic activity. Scripture has a great deal to say about economics, and yet how little we pay attention to it.

Jubilee History

The Year of Jubilee was something every Israelite anticipated with great expectation, because it was the year of liberation when every individual was set free. Throughout Church history both Catholic and Protestant leaders have called for expressions and declarations of Jubilee based on Christ as the paradigm through which Jubilee is fulfilled.
Wars and disease had ravaged the nations and Europe was itself impacted as the Black Plague was spreading from China across the globe. By the time of Christmas in 1299, many Believers made a pilgrimage to Rome in hopes of God doing something to bring relief. At the time, the entire Church was part of the Holy Roman Empire.

Pope Boniface VIII was the first to proclaim a Jubilee for the entire year 1300. It was a time of great suffering and a great loss of hope. A Papal Bull was released and it was intended that there would be the proclamation of Jubilee every 100 years. There was a certain noble cause behind the declaration of a Jubilee, however it became corrupted into the selling of indulgences for the forgiveness of sins over the centuries, and was ultimately one of the main areas that was challenged during the Great Reformation by Luther, Zwingli, and Calvin.
From the time of 1300 on Jubilee had been followed by various declarations every 25 years and every 50 years. Pilgrimages to Rome, in particular to St. Peter's Basilica, became commonplace during Jubilee years. Interestingly enough, the Roman Catholic Church declared the year 2015-2016 the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy.
In ancient Israel, the Jubilee year was a time of great rejoicing; great joy. In fact, when Peter uses the term "joy unspeakable and full of glory," it is a reference to the fulfillment of Jubilee in Christ. Jubilee was a time when every individual was set free from enslavement to debt. Land was given back to its original owner as well during Jubilee, regardless of who it belonged to at the time of the Jubilee.

Give some thought to our current concept of how we look at land economically. For the ancient Israelites, the land belonged to God. Psalm 24:1 makes that perfectly clear: "The earth is the LORD's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein..." Paul even quotes that verse in 1 Corinthians 10:26.
Here is the Lord's commentary on who owns the land in Leviticus 25:23: "The land shall not be sold in perpetuity, for the land is Mine. For you are strangers and sojourners with Me."

Today governments all over the world tax land. Biblically, that contradicts who owns the property. God owns the property not the state. When Moses gave the 12 tribes their allotted possessions of the Land, they understood that they did not own the land, rather they were to steward it in their generation and pass it on to the next generation to whom God would entrust it for His sake. In the Scripture God opposes all property tax.

Christ, Our Jubilee

If Christ is our Jubilee, one thing we have to look forward to when His Kingdom fully comes at the Second Coming is no more property tax! There will be unprecedented wealth in the New Heavens and the New Earth. The nations will bring their wealth to the City of God according to Revelation 22. It will be a perpetual Jubilee.

Until then however, Jesus by the Spirit and the powers of the age to come, reaches into the future and brings it into the present for His saints and for the faithful. He is indeed on the Throne, and He still forgives sins, debts, and restores inheritances.
Jesus is the original author of "futurology". Ossip Flechtheim coined the term "futurology" in the 1940s, in a scholarly article entitled: "Futurology: The New Science?"
Sadly, he was too late. Jesus already had ascended into glory and stood and continues to stand as the Beginning and the End, the Alpha and the Omega, the One who was, and is, and is to come! Jesus always comes to us from the future and pulls us forward into that future. He isn't pushing you from the past, He is pulling you from the future.
Jesus is always ahead of you and me. That's how come He continues to admonish us to follow Him. To study Jesus, and in this case to study Him as our Jubilee, is to peer into the future and by faith bring it into the now.

Our 'Net' Worth

As we look at Christ our Jubilee and the elimination of debt, I want to encourage you to begin to think about a new definition of "net worth".

Years ago I did a series entitled "Drop Your Net Worth And Develop Your Self-Worth," albeit obviously in Christ.
All too often, we evaluate our worth based on how much money we have or don't have. That is a great way to erode away at your sense of dignity and value in the Kingdom. When Jesus declared "the favorable year of the Lord," He was proclaiming that by the anointing, He was your Jubilee, and your "net worth" would not be based on being a "have not."
In Luke 4:16-19, we discover that to be "poor" has so many areas of cultural and social implications, beyond simply economic issues. There is good news for the "poor" and that good news is the anointing which breaks every yoke will set you free from:

• Being enslaved to anything (including debt).
• Recovery of sight (without a vision you perish).
• Freedom from oppression.

The late George Land and Beth Jarman co-wrote a book in the 90's entitled, "Breakpoint And Beyond: Mastering The Future Today". It was all about the power of a principle they referred to as "future pull". Land was a biologist and researcher and noticed that in nature the future determines the present.

An apple seed becomes an apple tree because the seed contains the blueprint of the future. Every seed in your life contains the blueprint of a potential and possible future. What you do with that seed determines what future you will obtain. Certainly we can speak of seed as economic, however what about the seed of your vision, the seed of your mission, and the seed of your purpose in life?
One of the keys to the power of future pull is what Land and Jarman termed back then as "connectivity". Again, these are phenomenal concepts, however, Jesus already made these things clear millennia ago.

Our 'Net' Work

Connectivity is the "stuff" of the Kingdom. Relationship, "networking" is all about Kingdom life. When you follow Jesus into the future, you lay down "net worth" and live by "network". First and foremost, connectivity to Jesus, and then to everyone else Jesus is connected to. Networking leads to the creation of wealth in so many areas of life.
God can do things for you because with everything you need, He is your connection! By His Spirit, you share that "network", that "connectivity". Connectivity is relational. The Kingdom is relationship. How you treat your connections will have a profound impact on your level of the experience of favor.
When Jesus restores Peter in John 21, the great catch of fish (153 large fish, a type and shadow of the fullness of a Gentile harvest of the nations) was such that the net didn't break! In Luke 5, the first time around the net broke. In other words, the net didn't WORK. Post the Crucifixion, Burial, and Resurrection, now that Jesus is Peter's Jubilee, forgiven and cleansed of his sin and shame, the net "works".
The first time around, they fished all night and caught nothing, which had great ramifications for taking care of their families and paying their bills. They let Jesus into the boat, and He brought the future into the present, and assisted their "net worth" even though their net didn't work well and broke (and they lost some of the blessing).
The second time around, they didn't have to worry about net worth, because the "net-worked"! Sounds silly to make this play on words for some of you, however if you miss the whole understanding of Christ and your connection to Him and all He is connected to (since He upholds all things by the Word of His Power), you miss receiving revelation on Whom He is as your Jubilee, who by grace will connect you to your glorious future and bring it into your now.

Your Glorious Future!

Once Jesus rises from the dead, the curse is removed off of every area of your life and you are re-connected to the glorious future God has in store for you. Guess what? You are going to spend the rest of your life in the future. Someone said, the present moment is about 7 seconds.
• That means you are already in the future...now!
• You have the ability to claim Christ as your Jubilee right now.
• You have the ability to declare the year of the Lord's favor over you right now!
• Your net worth isn't the issue, it's your net-work!
• Your net-work is rooted and grounded by the Spirit in Him!
• You are connected to Him, to everyone and everything related to Him, and to the future that He already occupies and is bringing into your present moment! (To Subscribe to the Elijah List go here.)
