"The Purpose of Miracles" - Todd Bentley, Charlotte, NC

What is the message in a miracle? We need to understand the purpose of miracles before we can see an increase. I wrote this one thought about the purpose of a miracle before I started writing about how we could see a greater release of miracles in our ministries for the glory of God. I hope you enjoy this new teaching and share it with your friends!

What is the Purpose of a Miracle?

Do not allow yourself to be so taken back by a miracle that you miss the message. A miracle could be a temporary thing or could be a powerful encounter. When they ate the bread of life, it was more than just a miracle in the moment to feed them, but an invitation to the goodness and character of God. Jesus said, "You must eat My flesh and drink My blood" (see John 6:50-56, esp. 51).

The sole purpose of seeking God can be for the blessing, but He will never leave you the same. A true miracle is an invitation to know the Person that just fed you or healed you!

He will meet you in your place of need, but He'll never leave you the same. After you receive your miracle, you're going to know the Miracle Worker. After you receive the bread and eat, you are going to know the True Bread that comes down from Heaven.

How to See an Increase of Miracles

I think one of the greatest reasons we see a lack of miracles is due to the lack of presenting the truth about divine healing. We need to build faith and present the clear promises in the Word. We need to have the gifts and anointing flowing, but we need to come back to teaching the clear word about how to receive and maintain our miracle.

I think the greatest key to healing in our ministry is when I discovered the truth in John, chapter 5, verse 19. Jesus only did the things that He saw the Father doing. I believe that we need to wait to see what the Father will say to us about every situation and receive those words of knowledge before we even step into a meeting.

I love this quote in which we understand Jehovah as our Healer. I quoted this verse as it was really meant to be quoted in the Hebrew: "He said, 'If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD your God and do what is right in His eyes, if you pay attention to His commands and keep all His decrees, I will not bring on you any of the diseases I brought on the Egyptians, for I am the LORD, who heals you'" (Exodus 15:26). The will of God is that none of the sicknesses and diseases comes upon us!

This is one of my second favorite Scriptures of the promise of divine help and never knowing any area of barrenness in our lives: "Worship the LORD your God, and His blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you, and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span" (Exodus 23:25-26).

Healing comes through faith in Jesus, not faith in faith. The true power of God is released in the name of Jesus. I believe our focus needs to be in His presence so it's presence-based healing. "By faith in the name of JESUS, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus' name and the faith that comes through Him that has given this complete healing to him, as you can all see" (Acts 3:16, emphasis mine).

There is healing power in the spoken word of faith. Even at a distance from the nobleman's home, Jesus spoke the word: "'Thy son liveth.' And the manbelieved the word that Jesus had spoken..." (John 4:50) and returned home to find his son alive. There is another example of speaking or commanding the body to respond in the Book of Acts: "There he found a man named Aeneas, a paralytic who had been bedridden for eight years. 'Aeneas,' Peter said to him, 'Jesus Christ heals you. Get up and take care of your mat.' Immediately Aeneas got up" (Acts 9:33-34).

Again, we see the power of the spoken word of faith. Peter simply declared the truth: "Jesus Christ heals you," and the miracle of healing followed immediately. Tell the sick, "Jesus Christ heals you." Make no apologies for that statement.

A Merry Heart Contributes to Our Receiving Spiritual Healing

Remember the importance of joy, refreshing, and drinking in the wine. A merry heart contributes to our receiving spiritual healing.

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Proverbs 17:22

A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.Proverbs 17:22 KJV

The margin of the New American Standard Bible says that "a joyful heart" literally means "causes good healing."

Think of that: The state of our "heart" – referring here to the emotions, not the bodily organ – can substantially affect our good health or lack thereof. This has long been common knowledge in the medical field. Sometimes illnesses are diagnosed as "psychosomatic" in origin. Interestingly, the word psychosomatic comes from the same Greek words that the Bible uses for "soul" and "body." So medical science agrees with the Bible that the state of our inner man or woman can substantially affect our physical health, for good or for bad.

The Word of God says that a merry heart "literally causes good healing!" There is a direct cause and effect result: merry heart = good healing. Conversely, a broken or crushed spirit has a negative effect on our health (it "dries up the bones").

I speak and command healing and strength to come into your body, and I command every infirmity to release you in Jesus' name as you read this prayer out loud. I claim right now the ministry of the Holy Spirit bringing virtue into your body and that you would be a living testimony of the glory of God.
